Soroptimist Support

Soroptimist International of Port Angeles (SIPA) presented a check to Operation Uplift during September for the amount of $32,100.00.  SIPA has generously supported OU for many years with money made during the Pink-Up Port Angeles week and a golf tournament. Each June many Soroptimist women participate in a variety of fund raising activities during Pink-Up including a large bake sale, pop and pooch walk, spaghetti dinner, a silent auction and dinner, and a golf tournament. In addition numerous businesses and individuals pledge money in support of   Operation Uplift.  During 2010-2011 Pink-Up funds were used to provide 41 mammograms, 2 ultra sounds, 8 prosthesis, gift cards and medical assistance, bras, hats and wigs, and 10 cancer survivor activities in the amount of $22,347.  In addition the money raised through Pink –Up helps support OU administrative costs including office rental and utilities, advertising, website, and insurance.  There are no employee costs because everyone who works with Operation Uplift is a volunteer.  Without the help of SIPA and the local community, support to cancer victims and survivors would be dramatically reduced.  The OU Board is forever grateful for this tremendous community support. 

*Join in the Fun!  Join in the Fitness!  Free Yoga Classes for Survivors:  Fall classes start September 22, 2011, 5:30-6:30 P.M at the Sons of Norway (Scandia Hall) which is located at 131 West 5th St. in Port Angeles.   These great classes will be held every Thursday for 9 weeks ending on November 17, 2011.  Anna Manildi is the instructor.  Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing and bring a pair of socks and a Yoga mat (if you have one). *Operation Uplift *is searching for community members to serve on the OU Board. It's an extremely rewarding experience which provides opportunities for community service.
